What is Sophrology?
Sophrology is a method of training the body and mind to develop serenity and well-being.
It is used in health sciences, education, sports and personal development. Sophrology in its authentic form and with its original methodology has been created in hospitals and developed since 1960 by its founder, Professor Alfonso Caycedo, neuropsychiatrist.
Its objective is to help reinforce positive attitudes and values in daily life, both in the professional and personal fields, as well as to develop the ability to actively manage stress and negative emotions, or to develop specific skills.
Sophrology helps everyone to develop a serene consciousness by means of personal training based on relaxation and activation techniques for the body and mind. It is based on the observation and study of consciousness, body perception and the body-mind relationship, as well as their influence on lifestyle.
The regular practice of Sophrology with a professional and then independently allows each person to optimize his or her performance and efficiency on a daily basis
What are the main benefits of Sophrology?
A typical sophrological accompaniment consists of a series of exercises based on concentration, imagination and contemplation. Some exercises use the five senses to develop contemplative awareness, which leads us to be more aware of the present moment.
Other techniques use imagination to help anticipate the future in a positive way and to bring out positive feelings from the past.
In the course of the sessions, the person will learn to become more aware of himself, to be "subject" of his body and mind; he will gradually take the reins of his life, moving away from automatisms and conditionings, from the tyranny of materialism and the daily urgency.
From a physical point of view, these exercises awaken feelings of vitality and help to release tension. They provide a feeling of serenity, of physical and mental well-being, which will allow you to get out of the state of permanent stress.
Develop a serene consciousness with a sophrologist
At the mental level, they activate the concentration, the lucidity and the creativity of the individual, thus allowing him to escape from the daily concerns.
Regular practice will help channel negative emotions and awaken positive ones.
This training will gradually lead to the conquest of a different way of "being in the world", to a mutation of the ordinary consciousness into a harmonious and positive consciousness. An existence full of vitality which will be characterized by a positive attitude of the individual, towards himself and towards the surrounding world.
How do we practice sophrology?
Sophrology can be practiced in casual or business attire, comfortable in all cases. Some exercises take place in a sitting position, others in a standing position in a pleasant environment, without particular conditions. What is the difference between sophrology and relaxation techniques, hypnosis, etc.?
Unlike hypnosis, sophrology is not a method of suggestion in which the subject is passive. The person who practices it, although guided by the sophrologist, remains fully conscious; he/she is the main actor of his/her experiences and of the resulting change.
Beyond learning relaxation techniques to relax or overcome the problems of daily life, sophrology is a philosophy and allows the development of a positive attitude towards life, for a serene and value-filled existence.
How does Sophrology differ from psychoanalysis and psychology?
Sophrology studies consciousness, not the unconscious, the positive rather than the negative. It does not use interpretation as a diagnosis, but allows each person's experience to speak for itself.
It is a psycho-physical training of the consciousness based on the positive perception of our inner and outer world.
